MAHSHL
The Mid America High School Hockey League (MAHSHL) is a USA Hockey–sanctioned high school club league serving players across Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Teams are organized by school districts or regions rather than individual schools, creating stronger programs and a unified structure for high school–aged athletes to compete at both Varsity and Junior Varsity levels.
Formed in the 2009–2010 season after the Kansas City Metro Area High School Hockey League ended, the MAHSHL filled an important gap for players outside the St. Louis area. Today, the league includes programs from Kansas City, St. Joseph, Mid-Missouri, Oklahoma City, Springfield, Tulsa, Wichita, and Northwest Arkansas (Springdale). The season runs from late October through February, featuring a preseason jamboree, regular-season play, and playoffs.
With its regional model and organized structure, the MAHSHL has become a key driver of high school hockey in the Midwest, offering players a competitive environment and helping grow the sport across multiple states.
Ages
Players in the MAHSHL must be high school–aged (generally 14–18), aligning with USA Hockey’s 16U and 18U classifications. Eligible players must be enrolled in high school. All players must register with USA Hockey and play for their assigned district or regional team.
When
The MAHSHL season runs from late October through mid-February. It begins with a preseason jamboree in late October, followed by the regular season from early November through early February, and concludes with playoffs and finals in mid-February.
